After enjoying two years of steady growth, Victoria Blues Society celebrated a 'Volunteer Appreciation' on Sunday November 16th at Sopranos with the amazing and incredibly energetic Tina Jones Band, hailing from Gabriola Island and Nanaimo, to keep things kickin' along fast and funky.

Two years in existence and now with 217 members (as of Nov. 16), VBS has had an amazing and steady growth and that is due a great deal to the people who volunteer their time at events to make them work.

Tina Jones was thrilled to be a part of this special event and commented afterwards, "Wow! You folks sure can party! I know I'm not just speaking for myself when I say we had a spectacular time playing at the Volunteer Appreciation night. The crowd was so appreciative and responsive, not to mention great dancers! We'd love to come back any time. Thanks so much for having us. Best of luck with the Blues Society, I'm telling all my Victoria friends to join!" The Tina Jones Band's website is www.tinajonesmusic.com

tj.pres8790.jpgPart of the four hour event was spent recognizing each person who has volunteered at some VBS event over the last two years... and some 35 people received special mention and gift vouchers to local businesses courtesy of VBS in appreciation of their time.

Also part of the event were a variety of door prizes being awarded to the lucky ticket holders, and silent auctions for products and/or services were bid for during the course of the evening. Silent auction items were provided by Lisa Boehme of Superior Café, Deb Rhymer, VBS and the Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise, the Rosedale on Robson (in Vancouver), Muriel Hill of Acu-Pro Health and Healing, and Susan Kerr of Equimotion Pictures.

Thanks also go to VBS board member Rob Edwards and Scott James of 100.3 the Qtj.pres8817.jpg for keeping things boppin' along with their entertaining emceeing and banter. A special thanks goes to Sopranos for providing VBS with a great venue and their support of the blues.

Stay tuned for news of the first VBS presented event of 2009 expected to be announced early in December.
