A VBS Public Service Announcement

To all VBS Members, Friends and Associates...

With the tragic events of the massive earthquake (7.0 magnitude) January 12th in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, we would like to encourage everyone to consider making a contribution to the Canadian Red Cross at www.redcross.ca  to help in anyway you can. We here on the Island know that some kind of earthquake happens every year, albeit mostly un-noticed, but we know that we are in an earthquake zone.

Canada, as you likely may know, is deploying DART, personnel plus money, to Haiti to assist in helping Haitians cope with this major disaster, and is working in close concert with the United States and numerous other countries to provide basic necessities to the people that have survived, and to deal with finding survivors and to retrieve the so far countless thousands that have lost their lives in what amounts to but a few mere heartbeats!!!

The words of Canada's Governor General, Her Excellency The Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, who was born in Haiti, speaks volumes in an emotional video statement about her homeland and she noted that she still has family there, and this is included on CBC's continuing online coverage found at: http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2010/01/13/haiti-earthquake.html 

We, the VBS Board of Directors, encourage everyone to contribute what you are able to, Remembering that 'Every Dollar Helps'. If you are able to organize a collection at your place of work, solicit your friends and business associates to help, or if you are a band to add a 'Help Haiti' donation jar at your gig, all to give to the Red Cross or other NGO that is in a direct line to offer immediate help, and assist Haitians regain some semblance of normal life, of which will undoubtedly take some time to achieve. Anything you can do will help.
